Was There A Beginning Of Time And Will There Be An End Of Time?
|MessageToEagle.com – Time – with a reputation for being mysterious – is one of the most familiar attributes of the physical world. It’s always with us and sometimes, we are even too much aware of it and feel like it is running away from us, stealing our lives, moment by moment.
Time is “important to human beings,” according to Bernard D-Espagnat, a French theoretical physicist and an Anglo-Austrian mathematician and cosmologist, Hermann Bondi (1919-2005) said that time is a manufactured quantity.
In fact, time is our own making; its clock exists and ticks in our heads and it certainly must never be considered as pre-existing in any sense.
Are there different sorts of clocks that measure different sorts of time? Is there perhaps a natural clock or a universal measure of time for the universe as a whole?
Was there a beginning of time, and will there be end of time? What role does time play in the laws of the universe?
Thanks to Newton, time has the crucial position in the laws of the universe; it’s mathematical and “of common sense”.
Newton’s laws of mechanics helped people to see the “cosmos as a giant clockwork mechanism, predictable in its every detail. The clockwork universe enshrined time as a fundamental parameter in the workings of the physical world.” (P. Davis).
But Newton’s concept of absolute and rigid time met its fate – it had to collapse because it was fundamentally flawed. Einstein presented his theory of relativity and implications for the nature of time. He introduced into physics – his notion of time saying that time is relative.
The commonly accepted theory – based on 1929 discovery made by Edwin Hubble, an astronomer at Caltech – is that universe is expanding. Galaxies are moving away from each other as well as away from the Milky Way and a mysterious substance known as dark energy is thought to be responsible for speeding up this expansion.
“Dark energy is one of the great scientific mysteries of our time, so it isn’t surprising that so many researchers question its existence,” said Professor Bob Nichol from the University of Portsmouth.
“But with our new work we’re more confident than ever that this exotic component of the Universe is real – even if we still have no idea what it consists of.”
But what if this theory is wrong?
Not long ago, researchers from two Spanish universities developed an intriguing theory and presented it in the journal Physical Review D.
Professor Jose Senovilla, Marc Mars and Raul Vera from the University of the Basque Country and the University of Salamanca believe the existence of dark energy should be questioned and the growth of the universe is slowing down, instead.
Time is running out, they say, everything will appear to take place faster and faster until it disappears and the future will come to an end.
If the universe is slowing down, time will automatically also slow down until it eventually one day ceases to exist.

Fortunately, the deceleration of time is gradual and thus imperceptible to humans and the end would not occur until Earth collapse because our sun goes supernova.
While theory is perhaps a little bit bizarre, it’s still a realistic scenario.
“We believe that time emerged during the ‘Big Bang’ and if time can emerge, it may disappear as well, as the opposite effect,” says Cambridge University cosmologist Gary Gibbons.
As we know, our physical science is based on Big Bang, the greatest event of the universe from which all things including time – emerged, because the Big Bang is considered the origin of time itself.
If time itself began with the Big Bang, there was no “before” for anything to happen in.
At this point one can also ponder the nature and purpose of time.
What if time exists only in our minds? If our entire reality is nothing but a computer simulation, then time is just the programmed factor in this software.
Rich Terrell, from the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory, California Institute of Technology suggests that “God is an inter-dimensional being connected with everything in the Universe, a creator that is responsible for the Universe and in some way can change the laws of physics, if he wanted to.”
If this creator of gigantic clock work mechanism, the God of Watchmaker – decides to end this computer simulation, then the universe, time, our reality and we – humans – will vanish in a matter of seconds.
As a result of this, nothing what you just read really matters.
However, regardless of whether or not time-space is accelerating or decelerating, our mysterious universe is continuously changing and this process we can’t question.
