Vishaps – Flying Serpents And Dragon-Like Beings – Ancient Flying Machines Of Armenia?

They have played an immensely important role in shaping many of the world’s religious traditions and have been known from time immemorial.

Legends say that these remarkable, intelligent beings – capable to take either human or reptilian shape at will – created underground cities worldwide.

They have continued to make appearances to humankind on occasions.

Vishap stones represent one of the more interesting mysteries of Armenian archaeology.
They have been found on the north-eastern shore of Lake Sevan and are often in association with water engineering and construction of big and small artificial lakes and a complex system of canals joining them.

Today, almost all Vishap (Dragon) stones are devastated; they were intentionally knocked down.

The exact dating of these megaliths presents certain difficulties. In the vicinity of these enigmatic ancient figures, there are no remnants of ancient settlements, fires or other fossils, to which the radiocarbon analysis could be applied. Some vishaps have been covered with later drawings of crosses.

People do not know where they originate from and how they ended up in Armenia.

Their true ancient name is vishapakahr, derived from the Armenian word “vishap” meaning “serpent/dragon,” and “kahr” meaning “stone.”

These mysterious, cigar-shaped figures of stone are millennia old and approximately ten to twenty feet tall.

They are scattered throughout the historic Armenian landscape, mostly near bodies of water. As cult objects, they were also found throughout Mongolia, Caucasus, and other central Asiatic countries.

Ancient legends say that huge and powerful “vishap”, lives on Mt. Ararat and other high mountains but can unexpectedly descend on a big lake. Capable of underwater operations, the vishap can disappear underwater and then rapidly ascend into the sky.

Lurking in the clouds, they can suddenly appear and attack with its poisonous blood and kill instantly, sweeping away everything on its way. With time, the traditional image of vishap has changed, and the worldwide myths about this “creature” became synonymous with evil spirits and dragons often maintaining its strong connection with water.

However, from most ancient sources, we learn that dragons were not mythological creatures, but rather ancient flying machines used by the sky gods to move around on Earth or to fight their enemies.

It was hardly possible to escape a malicious flying dragon vomiting fire and lightning. These ancient flying machines occasionally caused thunderstorms of great power.

The stone figures – cut from an integral stone – may depict extraterrestrial pilots of the powerful flying machines witnessed by the ancients of Armenia, the “land of the mountains where the gods dwell”.

Today, almost all Vishap (Dragon) stones are devastated; they were intentionally knocked down. The stone material was used to build shrines, set into the walls of old churches or carved into other later stone structures.
