John Herschel comes from an astronomical family. His father was William Herschel, the discoverer of the planet Uranus and compiler of double stars and nebulae in the Northern Hemisphere. His father also provided the first reasonably accurate scheme of the shape of the Galaxy.

MessageToEagle.com – John Herschel was born at Slough on March 7, 1792, son of William Herschel, the most eminent astronomer of the period, who discovered Uranus. John attended St John’s College,
