Frozen City: 750,000 Square Meters Full Of Ice Castles, Towers And Sculptures

MessageToEagle.com – A wonderful city of ice has been constructed in Heilongjiang province, north-eastern China for the 32nd Harbin International Ice and Snow Festival.

Ice castles, towers and structures illuminated with colored lights will be the main subject of the annual festival.

The displays cover a space of 750,000 square metres and include hundreds of buildings created by carvers who started working on their sculptures in late November.

The event features the world’s largest snow sculptures and has become very popular attracting about a million visitors every year, while the festival will run from January 5 to February 5, 2016.

This year’s theme is “Pearl on the Crown of Ice & Snow.”

Stunning as the works are in all their white glory, the best time to go is at night, when when the sculptures are lit from the inside.

At night, the sculptures are colorfully illuminated and visitors can climb and play on some of the structures.

Since 1985, the Harbin International Snow and Ice Festival has grown to become one of the biggest snow festival destinations in the world, joining the ranks of the Sapporo Snow Festival in Japan, Canada’s Quebec Winter Carnival and Norway’s Holmenkollen Ski Festival.

Depending on weather conditions, the festival usually lasts until late February.
