Yeti, Bigfoot, Sasquatch and Yowie are names of giant creatures whose existence is uncertain and often widely debated.
Cryptozoologists have long complained their research is not being taken seriously by mainstream scientists.
That is about to change now when a group of established scientists from UK and Switzerland are launching a
new project that should prove whether or not these undocumented creatures exist.
So far, no-one has been able to provide any conclusive evidence of these giant mystical creatures, which is the reason
why many scientists have been skeptical.
"It's one of the claims by cryptozoologists that science does not take them seriously. Well, this is their chance.
We are calling for people to send us their evidence, and we will test it through DNA analysis," says Bryan Sykes, a
Professor of human genetics at the University of Oxford in the UK.
Scientists from UK and Switerland will try to determine whether giant mythical creatures exist.
It is likely that the project is the biggest and most comprehensive attempt yet to probe suspected "remains". "Nothing like this, on this level, has been done before," says Richard Freeman from the Centre for Fortean Zoology in the UK.
Oxford-Lausanne Collateral Hominid Project
is already attracting attention from a variety of groups, says Professor Sykes, who is also founder of a business called Oxford Ancestors, which helps
people trace their relatives through DNA for a fee. However, this was to be expected. Skeptic or not who doesn't want to know the real truth about Yeti and his giant friends.

Myths and legends about these creatures loom large in every culture and the idea of finally finding solid evidence for their existence is appealing,
no matter who you are. "It's a story that just does not go away. We are so intrigued by these quests for the unknown, even doubters want to hear about developments,"
Professor Sykes says.
But how will the Hominid project actually be able to prove or disapprove the existence of Yeti, Bigfoot, Sasquatch and Yowie?
To begin with Sykes and his colleagues have asked people around the world to submit samples before September, along with theories about what they could be.
Later they plan to use DNA barcoding to test each specimen.
The team will largely focus on hair samples which are regarded as the most commonly presented physical evidence to back up claims of sightings.
"Up until the last couple of years, you needed quite a lot of biological material … and often the results were inconclusive," said Sykes.
"Now, all we need is a small amount of hair."
Of course there is the problem that Sykes and his team can find a sequence of DNA that has no match in the world's databases,
it does not automatically mean that the creature is a mythical beast, says Albert Zink, an anthropologist at the European Academy of Bolzano in
Italy, who questions the validity of the whole enterprise. "It could be a sample of an extinct animal that has nothing to do with the Yeti myth," he explains.
The first report of a strange creature living in the Himalayas dates back to 1832, when climber B.H. Hodgson of Nepal witnessed a tall beast covered in dark hair walking on two feet.
Professor Sykes admits that might be the case but he is unconcerned.
The Hominid Project has potential to determine the relationship between our own species and others.
It could even help identify new species of hominid.
"Theories as to what Yetis are... range from surviving collateral hominid species, such as Homo neanderthalensis or Homo floresiensis,
to large primates like Gigantopithecus, which were widely thought to be extinct," says Sykes.
Sykes has been confronted with criticism ever since the project started.
Although he admits that the project is speculative and unlikely to find a new species of hominid, he argues the search is still valid.
"Science does not accept or reject hypotheses but evaluates them on the basis of evidence," he says.
"This is why I am confident that examining the evidence of alleged Yetis does not fall outside the realm of proper scientific enquiry."
2012 Maya Monument Discovered By Archaeologists
Archaeologists working at the site of La Corona in Guatemala have discovered a
1,300-year-old-year Maya text that provides only the second known reference to the so-called “end date” of the Maya calendar, December 21, 2012.
Not Of This World Relics Hidden From Public View For Many Years -
Forgotten And Ignored
Many of out-of-place relics have been hidden from public view for many years because they do not fit the traditional model of human prehistory.
According to this model based on evolutionary time scale, they are out-of-place because they predate human evolution.
Often forgotten and ignored, they still prove evolution theory false showing human existence much further back into Earth's history...
Out-Of-Place Artifact With DNA "Not Similar"
To Anything Ever Found On Earth
In the 30s of the twentieth century, a genuine, 900-year-old bone skull was discovered in an abandoned mine tunnel near Mexico's Copper Canyon.
It was very different and until now is a subject of scientific interest and debate regarding both the unusual shape and properties of the bone.
The Starchild skull does not resemble any of the skulls earlier analyzed by scientists. It represents something never seen before by science.
Is the Starchild Skull an "alien" artifact, which means foreign to normal human genetics - as we know it, or definitely not from planet Earth?
Interview With Erich von Däniken - Father of The Ancient Astronauts Theory
Erich von Däniken, widely regarded as the father of ancient alien theory is one of the most successful and influential alternative history
authors who have sold millions of books world-wide.
Born in 1935, Switzerland, Däniken shocked the world with his first book
Chariots of the Gods,
in which he provided his readers with evidence that early humans had contacts with highly advanced civilizations in the distant past.
Easter Island's Statues Reveal Bodies
Covered With Unknown Ancient Petroglyphs
Standing some 2,000 miles west of Chile, on the Easter Island, 887 mysterious giant statues have intrigued scientists and the public for years.
For a long time it was believed that the massive statutes consisted of just the heads. Now,
scientists can reveal remarkable photos showing that the bodies of the statues go far deeper underground than just about anyone had imagined...
Sirius Mystery by Robert Temple - Book Review
A spaceship arrived from the sky and landed with a great noise and wind, on three legs.
"After the landing, something with four legs appeared and dragged the vessel to a hollow, which filled with water
until the vessel floated in it," according to the Dogon legend that has been passed through generations.
Did our ancestors have contact with highly advanced civilization living in Sirius star system?
